About Us

The Mission of the Bartlett Historical Society (BHS) is to research and preserve the history of Bartlett, Hart’s Location, and Livermore, New Hampshire. Additionally, we offer opportunities for people to learn about the history of these three small towns in the White Mountains.

Formation

  • BHS was formed in 2006 as a 501 (c) 3, non-profit organization

Membership

  • BHS has about 300 members with our roster of members growing annually.
  • Members are from Bartlett and the surrounding area, all the New England states plus currently 12 states across the United States (as far away as California, Washington, Texas, Flordia, and places in between)
  • Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in the history of this region; we welcome the support of all our members, whether local or from away.
  • New members are welcome at any time.

Bartlett History Museum

  • In October 2024, BHS completed a major renovation of Bartlett’s historic St. Joseph Church, reopening it as “Bartlett History Society and Museum” and BHS headquarters.
  • This roof-to-basement effort was made possible by the generous donation of over $642,000 from individuals, businesses, and foundations, plus a lot of hard work by BHS volunteers.
  • The museum building is listed on the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places as “St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church.” The building has also been recognized by the New Hampshire Preservation Alliance with its “Seven to Save” award.

Stewardship of Local History

  • BHS tells the story of the history of Bartlett, Hart’s Location, and Livermore through numerous documents, artifacts, biographies, and many other means.
  • Our museum has revolving displays of artifacts and documents (changed semi-annually).
  • We publish a quarterly newsletter and offer an annual Quarterly Presentation Series.
  • At our museum, we display many different aspects of our local history. Our museum is also the center for continued research on the stories of our forebearers.
